In order to live a Christian life according to the will of God, we must continue to fight in war against the kingdom of darkness. That is, we must resist the temptations, the advice of those who live in iniquity, taking part of the things in this world, withstand everything that the Word of God condemns. It is important that those who convert to Christianity be taught with the Word of God, which is the sword of the Spirit—if done so, they will be prepared for the daily war against hell, with the determination to win. It is a life or death fight and there is no such thing as a tie or any kind of deal! A Christian is either victorious or defeated. He who wins, will inherit eternal life, but if they lose they, "... have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death." Revelation 21:8.
That is why the Lord Jesus warned his followers saying:
"Do not think that I came to bring peace on earth. I did not come to bring peace but a sword. For I have come to ‘set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law'; and ‘a man's enemies will be those of his own household.' He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me. He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." Matthew 10:34-39
The sword Jesus refers to symbolizes His Word. The fact that the Lord Jesus Christ mentions it means that the fight is individual, since the sword is also an individual weapon. A disciple of the Lord Jesus can never expect anyone to win his fights for him: You have to win by your own efforts, with the same weapon that others have overcome.
