When we go to the doctor, he asks a lot of questions and we learn how to notice that something is wrong with our health. So I’m going to give you 3 symptoms that show your soul is thirsty for God. I’m not talking about religion, I’m talking about the presence of God.

1) The absence of peace

When a person is empty of God, they realise that there is no peace in their life. They may even have a lot of positive things on the outside (good job, family, everything going well), but inside them, there is no peace. For some reason, they are not able to rest, they cannot sleep, they do not have a peaceful night of rest, don’t stop to breathe and say: “I’m fine.” And they keep trying to run away from themselves, from this peaceless moment (especially when they’re alone). They fill their schedule with things to do so they don’t stop and think about it too much. The presence of God is characterised by inner peace. When we have the presence of God within us, war may be going on outside, but inside we are at peace.

2) The presence of hatred, anger, grudges, and revengeful feelings

Naturally, the presence of God brings us an understanding of others and good eyes. His absence promotes the opposite. So, if you realise, for example, that your heart is filled with hate and you weren’t like that before, however, you have become a cold person, who doesn’t care about others (even for the bad things we see in the world), you have a symptom of a thirsty soul, that you need God.

3) Turmoil of thoughts

Maybe you’ve reached a point where you say, “I don’t know anything anymore.” You no longer have convictions about your life. You don’t know if you should move out of the city you live in. Sometimes you want to live, sometimes you want to die. You look to religions for answers. You want to know what people are talking about. You go to the psychologist. And all the answers you get don’t satisfy you. They do not respond to your yearnings, apart from the turmoil that is within you. When God is with us, He doesn’t give us all the answers. We cannot know everything about this world. But He comforts us with the answers He gives us. It is a response that comforts us and reassures us.
