Do you know why many husbands prefer to take the car and drive through the city, even without a destination, just to enjoy the ride alone? And also wives who prefer to dress, put on makeup, get ready for work or go out with their friends? And do you both prefer these things to staying together at home?

Pay attention to this verse: “[…] he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church” (Ephesians 5:28,29).

Nobody hurts their own flesh. If the person does this, they need mental care because this is not normal. The normal thing is to rest, to buy food that is good for us, to purchase clothes that we look nice in, and to take care of our hygiene because it is in the body that the person lives, so they must take care of themselves because they will be with it until death.

So, we should also take care of our spouse. Jesus takes care of the Church. He invests in the Church so that it presents itself to Him as immaculate, perfect and holy. That’s what any intelligent husband should do with his wife.

It is worth adding that if money made a person happy, the rich would not divorce. How much does respect cost? Courtesy? A compliment? A hug?

So, that’s why the Word says that whoever loves his wife loves himself.

Ask yourself if there is anything that gives you more pleasure than your wife or your husband. If yes, it’s probably because you invest more in this thing than in them. If you were doing the opposite, you wouldn’t want to stay away from your spouse for anything in this world.
