I want to introduce you to the greatest carnivalesque person of all time. No one has ever beaten this guy. No one has ever done so many things like it. Whether at Carnival or other festive times, because it doesn’t need Carnival. At Carnival, it lets out everything it knows, wants and can do. But it also acts out of season. I present you with the greatest carnivalesque person of all time: your heart. Yes, the human heart.

The Lord Jesus Himself said: “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness” (Mark 7:21-22).

It is as if He is talking about what happens at Carnival. Everything we see during Carnival is nothing more than an expression of what is inside man’s heart. At this time, people have the perfect excuse for celebrating the works of the flesh. It’s the perfect justification. “I went because it was Carnival.” “I did it because it was Carnival.”

But you shouldn’t say: “Look, what a libertine”. What is inside them is inside us. Because the heart is the same. The difference is that we have more control. We should not judge these people because many don’t know what they are doing. Most people fall into misleading advertising. The heart doesn’t think; it wants to know how to feel it. So, people are giving in to the heart because the world says to them: “Follow your heart”. What an absurd piece of advice. The Lord Jesus says that the heart is the worst carnivalesque person, and the devil says: “Follow your heart”. In other words, if you follow the heart, you will end up right in hell, in the abyss.

We must try to be light for these people, to show that there is another way. But with this information, don’t be so sure you wouldn’t do the same things, given the circumstances. You will see a lot of hot off-press news about tragedies, unfortunately. But not only that, know that if you do not keep your heart or overcome it by your spirit connected to God, you will also do the same things.

We don’t know our own heart. We sleep with our enemy (our heart) every night.

So, what should your stance be towards this carnivalesque person? The stance should be of constant vigilance. Look at any odd inclination your heart may give. Your mind connected to God should say: “This is not right”. So, you push this feeling away.
