32,000 traveled with Gideon and camped near the valley where the Midianites were. But when they arrived, they wanted to go back. “Give me the paper that say’s ‘shy and scared,’ so we can sign on the dotted line and go.”
Simply saying that you believe in God is not actually believing in God. Showing up for the battle doesn’t mean fighting the battle.
God used a simple gesture of body language to separate the brave from the disqualified. Knees to the floor + mouth in the water = go back home. On foot and alert + bringing the water to your mouth = joining Gideon.
Unfair? Insignificant detail? No.
