Naaman’s uniform
Day 21 of the Fast of Daniel
Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper. 2 Kings 5.1
One reason why many people do not receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit is because they haven’t stripped away their pride. A person cannot receive the Spirit of God when he is full of himself, thinks he knows everything, or knows more than the pastor. We are mere sinners, unworthy to even pronounce the name of the Most High. No one should come into the presence of God holding on to their PhD, knowledge, earthly wisdom or worldly experiences.
Naaman was like this; he was a renowned commander and war hero. However, though his uniform was full of medals, it was covering a leprous body.
Be careful, my friends, so that you don’t become spiritually like this too, dressed in a “Christian uniform”, know the Word, but covered with the leprosy of pride, arrogance, overconfidence, conceit and selfishness.
But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, “Indeed, I said to myself, ‘He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.’ 2 Kings 5.11
There are also people who want to tell the pastor what to do.
Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean? 2 Kings 5.12
There are people who, because of the pride in their hearts, do not want to give up what they are and what they have learned in this world to obey what is being determined by the Spirit, through the man of God, who gives his life to see them be transformed. For this reason, they will never receive the healing of the soul.
Naaman only received healing when he submitted to the Divine Direction of the man of God.
The revelation of the Spirit of faith can only be manifested to those who are humble of Spirit.
… I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes. Matthew 11.25
Remove this uniform of pride; let go of everything, everything you’re holding on to; humble yourself before God; ask Him to strip away your pride; go down to the waters of the Spirit and receive the healing of your soul. This is what God expects of you.
May God bless you!
