HOW AN IDOL IS BORN (AND YOU CAN GIVE BIRTH TO IT)
Don't trade what is true and eternal for things that are false and fleeting
A recurring theme throughout the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is the effort, the attempt, of God to uproot idolatry from within the human being. That with, the practice of putting something or someone in the place of God, in your life. You see this over and over again (from the Garden of Eden to the last warnings God gives people in Revelation). He always says, “Cast away the idols from among you.”
In the Ten Commandments, the first commandment is, “You shall have no other gods before Me” (Exodus 20:3). But idolatry is not just when a person takes a liquid plaster and puts it in a mould to dry and creates the image of an idol. This is perhaps the most visible idolatry that one can practice. But idolatry can occur without a physical image of worship. Think! How does a human being create an idol? This happens when we seek to fill a need or a personal desire and do not turn to God.
An example of “invisible” idolatry would be when a person relies on astrology to make decisions and does not consult what God’s will is. There are also those people who idolise money. They are capable of sacrificing family, health, principles and values, among other things, just to have more money.
