The 36th reason

A year ago I wrote the 35 reasons why I love The UCKG. If you haven’t read it, read it here. Today, I want to add one more reason. We completed 36 years of existence, and I want to tell you why I am Universal.

It’s open every day, but it’s not for everyone.

Nobody will ever be barred from entering the doors of a Universal. As long as they’re not there to disturb the peace of those within, disrespect the people or work, they are welcome. Black. White. Foreign. Homeless. Rich. Addict. Religious. Atheist. Homosexual. Curious. Divorced. Critic. Sincere. Doctor. Sick. People.

You will receive equal treatment. Seats are guaranteed if you come early. It’s open every day, but it’s not for everyone.

The UCKG is not for everyone. Neither is heaven. Whoever goes a couple of times to The UCKG quickly notices that it hits a nerve. Whoever comes expecting a pleasant service, designed to make people feel comfortable with their life as it is, will be quickly bothered.

It’s like going to the dentist. Most people just go to the dentist when the pain is unbearable, but they expect the dentist to do whatever is necessary to just make the pain go away.

The good dentist, however, looks at all your teeth, takes x-rays, and points out everything that’s wrong in that mouth. Then he recommends not only the treatment to heal that pain, but what to avoid all future pain. Still, most people insist: “Just do something about the pain, doctor.” Though they know that it won’t solve the problem, the doctor obliges. After that, the person will probably not go back to that dentist. “I just went because I had a pain and he already wants to yank off four wisdom teeth, have a root canal done, put braces on me, and then he has the nerve to say I have cavities in 6 teeth? I’m never going back there again! That guy’s a thief.”

Many people are healed of their ailments when they come to the UCKG, but then they never return, (or at least until another pain shows up.) They go to other places where more agreeable things are said. They get together with others who give them a pat on the back and don’t challenge them to be better. And some even spit in the plate they ate from.

The UCKG is not for everyone.

Those who remain are the ones who want a total change. They prefer a slap of truth than a kiss of lies. They are the people who don’t worry about what others think, but what God thinks. They want to be a part of God’s elite troops.

No, The UCKG is not for everyone. But its doors remain open to all, even to those who one day turned their backs on it.

That’s why, I am Universal
