Peniel

He had many victories throughout his life;

Even if they were obtained by fooling others, he still obtained them…

He conquered his birthright,

He conquered his family, and finally

He conquered financial success.

But, with each step, he deteriorated inside.

A bad character seed grew in silence.

Like most people, he thought financial power made up for his flaws.

In the end, he would come out free and victorious.

But it was not so.

The day of reckoning arrived.

Esau was coming to meet him, followed by 400 men of war.

There was no way for Jacob to escape.

Confront him with what?

Women, children and animals?

Money, gold, riches?

What were all of his possessions worth now?

He was very afraid.

Afraid of dying. Genesis 32.7

He cried out to the God of his grandfather and his father,

Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau; for I fear him, lest he come and attack me and the mother with the children. Genesis 32.11

But the fear of death haunted him.

As if the time came for his death, his only solution was to get rid of everything.

And he arose that night and took his two wives, his two female servants, and his eleven sons, and crossed over the ford of Jabbok. He took them, sent them over the brook, and sent over what he had. Then Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Genesis 32.22-24

Once he was alone and completely dependent of God, a Man (Jesus) appeared to him and made him a blessing, like his grandfather.

He called that place Peniel,

For I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved… Genesis 32.30
