Abraham and Sarah
The difference between a faith that has had an encounter with God and the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and one that has not...
Abraham heard the voice of God (the encounter) and left his country in the faith of the promises he had received. In his vision of the stars, he understood that what God would do was greater than his dream. He trusted and waited against hope, not considering his aged body, and so, saw the promise being fulfilled.
When put to the test, Abraham placed his son on the altar, because he knew that God was able to raise him from the ashes. This is an authentic faith from having a personal encounter with the ALMIGHTY! It is a faith which made him honour God above everything else – his greatest treasure!
Sarah never heard the voice of God, had nothing revealed to her and did not believe in the promise. She lived on her husband’s faith, was insecure and acted according to her heart. She gave Abraham a servant with whom to bear children, trying to find a way… And yet, behind the door, she heard when the Lord said to Abraham that she would give him a child that year. Sarah laughed (doubted) within herself, as she considered and regarded her body’s condition, her old age. When questioned why she had laughed, she denied it as she was afraid.
Unfortunately, we have many ‘Sarahs’ among us, who have spent years in the tent (the church), who hear the preaching, read the promises, but don’t believe. They are insecure and fearful because they look at the circumstances. They are poor in faith and miserable on the inside. They have a blocked mind because they have never had the revelation of faith.
Alongside the ‘Abrahams’ (to whom faith has been revealed), they see the testimonies, applaud other people’s achievements, feed on emotions, but laugh (doubt) within themselves when it comes to their own lives. They deny their faith when facing battles. They live in deceit, pretending to believe when they don’t! They don’t have their own light; they are despised, because they despise God. This is why they haven’t had an encounter with God, or been baptised in the Holy Spirit.
Then there are others who fell, rebelled and left, thinking they had been wronged. They use several arguments to hide the fact that the faith has never been revealed to them. Just as Lot, these ‘exes’ become prisoners of the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah (demons who act in this world) … and their end is melancholic in the cave they live in!
On the other hand, Sarah, in spite of her weaknesses and flaws, remained faithful at Abraham’s side until death. She was mentioned in the Bible, not as a mother, but as someone who gave birth whilst being at Abraham’s side, who was the blessed one and the multiplier.
What is glorious is that every ‘Sarah’ has the opportunity in this Campaign of Israel to become an ‘Abraham’ – the opportunity of having the faith revealed to them by having an encounter with God and receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit. All they have to do is honour God with their entire lives on the altar!
“Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for I called him alone, and blessed him and increased him.” Isaiah 51:2
