Covetousness
Characteristics of a covetous person: an excessive or insatiable desire for wealth; whose biggest concern is to acquire wealth.
Hate covetousness
Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens. Exodus 18.21
Perverted justice
But his sons did not walk in his ways; they turned aside after dishonest gain, took bribes, and perverted justice. 1 Samuel 8.3
Troubles
He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, but he who hates bribes will live. Proverbs 15.27
Abbreviates his days
A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, but he who hates covetousness will prolong his days. Proverbs 28.16
The anger of the Lord
For the iniquity of his covetousness I was angry and struck him; I hid and was angry, and he went on backsliding in the way of his heart. Isaiah 57.17
Falsehood
Because from the least of them even to the greatest of them, everyone is given to covetousness; and from the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely. Jeremiah 6.13
Misery
And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” Luke 12.15
Idolatry
Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Colossians 3.5
Cursed
Having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. 2 Peter 2.14
