Do blessings bring sorrow?

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10.22

At first glance, this verse sounds pretty obvious.
The blessing of the LORD in itself brings riches and, therefore, it does not bring sorrow.
However, not everyone understands the extent of this verse.
They believe that blessings (promises) are poured out like rain.
They believe that an easy conquest is a sign of the Lord’s approval.

Example

A young lady said: “I prayed, fasted and cried out to the Lord for Him to give me a man of God.
One day, out of nowhere, I ran into someone who had all the criteria I was looking for.

Intelligent, excellent education, successful in the workplace, a good name among high-class society and everything else that would guarantee my long awaited happiness.

Was this a “sign” from God?

After meeting him, everyone would say to me, ‘It took you long enough, but you finally got it right, huh?!’
I felt like royalty on our wedding day, all that was missing was a royal carriage…
I felt like the happiest woman in the world, until the first night of our honeymoon, when he confessed to being gay.

Was this punishment from God?

I felt like the whole world came crashing down on me.
During the following years, I kept asking myself: Why, God? Why? Where did I go wrong?
My blessing turned into a curse, and my prince turned into a frog.
Isn’t it written that the Lord’s blessing brings riches? And with it does not come sorrow?
How can this have happened? Why did You allow this to happen?”

The deceit

The lack of spiritual discernment can confuse even the wisest people.
Her fatal mistake was placing all her faith on the “Prince”, thinking that he was God’s answer.

Deceived by a supposed “faith”

She wholeheartedly believed that the easiness of the relationship was evidence of God’s approval.

Intelligent faith

All things are possible through faith.
But the use of faith accompanied by the disregard of God’s will certainly brings sorrow.
Surely, her marriage was not the will of the Lord.
If it were, there would be no sorrow.

Those who live in faith must discern what is and what is not of God.
If everything seems very easy, you should become suspicious, stop and wait.
Take your time, until you are absolutely sure it’s the will of God.
If there are difficulties, then the chances of it being the will of God are greater.

What I’ve learned

I have learned that blessings are always preceded by difficulties.
The greater the difficulty, the greater the blessing.
God’s answers are never wrapped up and handed to us like gifts.
Instead, they come from the sacrifice of sweat, blood and tears.

This is how it was in the past, this is how it is in the present and will be in the future.
