“Everyone does it.” This has been one of the most common phrases among today’s society and the first excuse to justify mistakes and sins:

— “Son, why are you using drugs?” asks a desperate mother.
— “Because everyone at school does it,” says the son.

— “Why are you getting involved with that dirty scheme at work?”
— “Because everyone at work does it,” says the corrupt businessman.

— “Why did you cheat on me?” asks the disappointed wife.
— “Because everyone does it and I’m not perfect,” says the unfaithful husband.

These are just some examples of how people use this evil phrase.

Our ancestors had wise proverbs, which fit very well with this circumstance, and don’t cease to be true. They also serve as a warning:

“Tell me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.”
“When you wallow with the pigs, expect to get dirty.”

Unfortunately, many have allowed themselves to be influenced by others and paid a high price because of it.

The New King James Bible says:

Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.” 1 Corinthians 15.33

Even if it is a very dear, close person or your superior, it’s not because he does something wrong that you should do it too!

Do not be fooled by anyone’s subtle words. Just as Adam and Eve were corrupted by the subtle words of the devil (“God knows” – Genesis 3.4-7) and were expelled from paradise, many have destroyed their lives by doing what “everyone else is doing”.

We have to be very careful not to be influenced by anyone. We are unique, and it is not because “everyone does it” that we should do it too, especially since we do not consider ourselves as being “part of this world”, right?

Those who have and live an intelligent faith are not led by anyone; they have the mind of Christ and are guided by the Spirit of God. They know how to distinguish right from wrong, and what is truly good for their life. They live contrary to this world.
