Hard times create strong men
With its huge skyscrapers, Dubai is synonymous with wealth, modernism and ostentation. Governed by Sheikh Mohammed, and under the command of his family since 1833, Dubai is no longer a dry city in the desert to become one of the most glamorous metropolises in the world.
But whoever sees this splendor does not imagine the sacrifices made by various generations. Proof of this was the Sheikh’s response when asked about the future of the city: “My grandfather rode a camel, my father rode a camel, I drive a Mercedes, my son drives a Land Rover, and my grandson is going to drive a Land Rover, but my great-grandson is going to ride a camel…”
The Sheikh probably understands the meaning of the Eastern proverb, which says:
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times.
Good times create weak men, weak men create hard times.”
Despite enjoying everything the human soul might desire, the billionaire realizes that it was the hardships of his ancestors that made them strong and successful. However, he is also well aware that the ease, perks and lack of obstacles of his descendants will make them weak to the point of jeopardizing all of the family’s achievements.
The stories of the heroes of faith described in the Bible are proof of this, because even in the face of so many challenges, God’s guidance always encouraged them to overcome, as Joshua did:
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1.9
Peaceful times have never brought victories. So, even if you are going through struggles, living in difficult times, do not give up! Because those who persevere, obey and trust in God never lose; instead, it is these moments that will make you stronger, more experienced and closer to God, to be a living witness of His Power.
