Therefore may God give you of the dew of heaven, of the fatness of the earth, and plenty of grain and wine. Let peoples serve you, and nations bow down to you. Be master over your brethren, and let your mother’s sons bow down to you. Cursed be everyone who curses you, and blessed be those who bless you! Genesis 27.28-29

Jacob did not need to deceive his father to have Esau’s blessing. What he received by lying was not what God wanted for him.

Many people lie, disguising themselves for something so small, and the fruit of deception is ending up alone.

What God had in store for Jacob was already saved for him, and not even Esau’s weeping could prevent Jacob from receiving it.

And Esau said to his father, “Have you ONLY ONE BLESSING, my father? Bless me—me also, O my father!” And Esau lifted up his voice and wept. Then Isaac his father answered and said to him: “Behold, your dwelling shall be of the fatness of the earth,

and of the dew of heaven from above. By your sword you shall live, and you shall serve your brother; and it shall come to pass, when you become restless, that you shall break his yoke from your neck.” Genesis 27.38-40

Did Isaac have nothing else to give?

He did! A lot more!

But not to Esau, because he despised the God of Abraham.

So how could he receive Abraham’s blessing?

Though Jacob was full of mistakes, he always recognized the greatness of the God of Abraham.

And when he had the opportunity to do what was right and correct his mistake, he obeyed his father Isaac without questions.

Then Isaac called Jacob and BLESSED HIM, and charged him, and said to him: “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan. Arise, go to Padan Aram, to the house of Bethuel your mother’s father; and take yourself a wife from there of the daughters of Laban your mother’s brother. “May God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful and multiply you, that you may be an assembly of peoples; and give you the BLESSING of ABRAHAM, to you and your descendants with you, that you may inherit the land in which you are a stranger, which God gave to Abraham.” So Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Padan Aram… Genesis 28.1-5

This had always been God’s will for Jacob.

Then God appeared to Jacob again, when he came from Padan Aram, and blessed him. And God said to him, “Your name is Jacob; your name shall not be called Jacob anymore, but Israel shall be your name.” So He called his name Israel. Also God said to him: “I am God Almighty. Be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall proceed from you, and kings shall come from your body. The land which I gave Abraham and Isaac I give to you; and to your descendants after you I give this land.” Genesis 35.9-12

What God had in store for Jacob was the same BLESSING as Abraham and Isaac.

Esau could never possess this because he despised the God of Abraham.

Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated. Romans 9.13
