Pact with God

pact

A pact or covenant is a partnership between two or more people. Marriage is the biggest and most expressive human covenant, because both parties bring in strictly spiritual elements: faith and love. And thanks to this solid foundation, they surrender to one another unconditionally until the day they die.

Unfortunately, people don’t take marriage as seriously as they should. As a matter of fact, the only thing that matters in marriage these days is the wedding party and the honeymoon. And yet, if we take into consideration the origin of a covenant when God created humankind and made a covenant with them, we know that the eternal and spiritual values still exist, even when they’ve been forgotten. Adam and Eve received the earth and authority over everything that was on it; and all God demanded from them was obedience to His Word. According to the terms and conditions of this covenant, humankind had a right to EVERYTHING that belonged to God, and vice versa.

Faithfulness, respect, companionship and dedication are some of the virtues that originate from love and faith. How can we demand this from our partner if we ourselves don’t fulfil our part of the pact we made with them on the altar? It’s the same in our relationship to God. How can we demand from Him the fulfilment of His promises if we don’t obey His Word?

I believe that if we do our part in the pact with God, we have the right to demand from Him the fulfilment of His promises. And He, in turn, will be obliged to fulfil His part.
