Recipe for the Bread of Eternal Life
It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ Matthew 4.4
The LORD is not depreciating the value of bread. Instead, He is teaching that life should not be focused on the physical body, but on the spiritual body. Especially since our lifespan is so short. However, the same is not true when it comes to the spiritual body, which regards the soul and spirit.
When challenged by the devil, the Lord Jesus did not act by faith based on the feelings of the heart. He was famished, but not to the point of surrendering to hunger. Instead, he used intelligent Faith and applied it to what is written in the Bible.
The Word of God is Spirit (John 6.63). When you turn to what is written to resist evil, there is no chance of losing. Except when faith is based on the feelings of the heart.
It is in the wilderness that we wage the greatest battles against hell, but it is in the desert that we learn the greatest lessons of the Holy Spirit.
Knowledge of Scripture is not enough; it must be applied at all times, whatever the need may be.
It was the Holy Spirit Who led His Son to the wilderness so He could leave us the recipe for how to face the darkness and overcome it.
