Many people think that God has a stern countenance towards them or an angry face, like someone who is dissatisfied with the world. However, it is exactly the opposite. The Priestly Blessing shows the Lord ready to give us health, safety, prosperity and protection. Observe:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”’

“So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them.” Numbers 6:24-27

Just as the sun rises and bathes the earth in its rays of light daily, similarly, the Lord Jesus raises the bright light of His face upon us.

Of course, His face is infinitely greater than the sun.

Therefore, who can hold an unhappy countenance or a scowling face before the most beautiful smiling face that welcomes you?

Whoever corresponds to His gaze receives incomparable peace in their soul because, by faith, they see the greatest of all glories.

Therefore, we need to understand that God is a God of reconciliation. He has always sought to be a Father, a Friend and a Helper to His people. Though the Lord did not make any mistakes in His relationship with the human being, the first step towards reconciliation was always His.

And the cross was the height of His surrender:

“… God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.” 2 Corinthians 5:19

Therefore, let the Lord Jesus lift up our faces and, with His gentleness, enlighten our lives and fill us with His peace.
