Vindicate me, O God, and plead my cause against an ungodly nation. Oh, deliver me from the deceitful and unjust man!

For You art the God of my strength. Why do you cast me off?

Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

Oh, send out Your light and Your truth! Let them lead me; let them bring me to Your holy hill and to Your tabernacle.

David wanted justice against those who wanted to harm him, but he didn’t just meaninglessly cry out to God asking for help. No, that is not what he did. He knew exactly what to do. He was aware that in order for justice to be done, a lot more than prayers and requests would be needed. He would have to use a living, practical faith. This is why he said that he was going to the Altar, which was his joy.

Many want justice, but they run away from the Altar. For them, the Altar is not a motive for joy, it is a burden. This is why they never see justice being done in their lives. On the contrary, they are humiliated and mistreated, and no one comes to their defense. The justice of God is only done by faith, and faith does not exist without the Altar!
