The love of money
The subject of knowing how to distinguish and understand the words of Jesus when it comes to wealth is so strong that He had to clearly explain it to His disciples. This way, there would be no doubts regarding God’s perspective on this matter.
Then Jesus looked around and said to His disciples, “How hard it is for those who have riches to enter the kingdom of God!”
And the disciples were astonished at His words. But Jesus answered again and said to them, “Children, how hard is it for those who trust in riches to enter the kingdom of God! Mark 10.23-24
They were astonished because they heard Jesus affirm firmly that He came to bring life, and bring it in abundance. Yet, now, they were listening to Him say that the rich would not enter the Kingdom of God. This created a lot of confusion in their minds.
And, because of this wrong and distorted vision, many people’s lives fall short of what God truly wants for His children.
For this reason, we, as ministers of the Altar of the Universal Church, have explained to the people of God that wealth and a full life are part of His plan, so that they can take possession of the promises made to Abraham’s descendants, which were to have an abundant life.
There is nothing wrong with being rich, having an abundant life, because Jesus Himself, in the same passage, affirmed:
So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time – houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions – and in the age to come, eternal life. Mark 10.29-30
We can see that those who sacrifice on the Altar, demonstrating where their heart truly lies, will receive, at least, in the present, a hundred times more than what they placed on the Altar. Isn’t this considered life with abundance? Besides what is more important, which is eternal life.
What a person may never do is set his heart upon his riches!
For the LOVE of money is the root of all evil.
