The Spirit in the desert
Comments I get on this blog often reflect a wide range of afflictions, grief, criticism and complaints. They remind me of when Moses led the people of Israel to the Promised Land. He certainly went through plenty of inner turmoil because he had to moderate the problems of three million people. Dealing with all the complaints, rebellion, disputes over lost livestock, the demand for bread and meat, and above all, water, was life as usual in the desert.
Through all this, Moses did not give up. After all, there was a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night. This cloud always went before the people (Exodus 13.22). The cloud was the Spirit of God.
He never abandoned His people. Of course, the ones who rebelled died in the desert and did not inherit the promise. But their descendants found favour in God’s eyes and under the leadership of Joshua, conquered the Promised Land. The same happens today. Many have been freed from their “slavery in Egypt”, but because they are rebellious, timid or cowardly, they will lose themselves in the “deserts” of this world.
Those who persevere and follow God’s Promises, take possession of them in due time, just like those of the past. My friends, I have shared your burdens. We have also had our own… for that reason I can relate to you.
But remember, the Holy Spirit is with us just as He was with our fathers in faith!
The enemies of our faith are wrong to believe that anxieties and tribulation will lessen our confidence in the God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel. On the contrary, we learn how to make lemonade out of lemons, we gather strength from our weakness … For when I am weak, then I am strong (2 Corinthians 12.10).
What’s more, we believe that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30.5).
Receive this joy in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ!
