The Story of Gideon – Part 25

Peace in Israel

Peace in Israel: (Judges 8:28)

Thus Midian was subdued before the children of Israel, so that they lifted their heads no more. And the country was quiet for forty years in the days of Gideon.

The land was at peace for forty years because of God’s faithfulness. He had promised to deliver the people from their enemies, and that He did.

Probably not all of the Israelites followed in Gideon’s idolatry. He himself did not allow Baal to be worshipped and neither did he ostensibly turn away from God. It is like a person who places other things or people in God’s place, but still goes to church. They are not as bad as they would be if they were in the world, but they are not as God wants them to be.

Therefore, Israel’s condition became better than the chaos it was before, but a long way from how it should have been. As a consequence, the children of the people who saw Israel being delivered ended up growing up far from God. Therefore, this peace had an expiry date.

Continues tomorrow…

Don’t miss it!
