The Threshing Floor of Decision
It is understandable to suffer the consequences of past mistakes. But what happens once a Christian is delivered? Why are there so many afflictions though they are of God?
These and other questions have left many born of the Spirit perplexed.
However, we find comforting answers in the history of the people of Israel.
Israel is a mountainous region. In each ancient city, it was a custom to build a threshing floor on top of a hill. Do you remember Araunah’s threshing floor? (2 Samuel 24.16)
The threshing floors served for at least two things: one was to sift grains. Wheat, for example, was crushed along with its outer husk and then thrown into the air so that the wind would blow away the chaff, while the grain fell onto the threshing floor.
The threshing floor also served as a court of law. The elders of the city, gathered there to judge the people’s cases. Because of its round shape, everyone sat facing each other. All of the parties were heard, and the elders reached a decision.
So, we can clearly see that, in all, the threshing floor was a place of judgment and separation.
Those who are wheat remain, but the tares get blown away!
The battles are enormous, but the reward, as it is written that eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. (1Corinthians 2.9)
For this reason, the kingdom of God is taken by force and only the brave and strong take possession of it. (Mathew 11.12)
