Unclean offerings
Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the Altar that sanctifies the gift? Matthew 23.19
It is not very difficult for a religious person to define the word offering. When a person hears this word, the monetary value deposited in a church’s offering bag quickly comes to mind. It’s an honest mistake!
We are not just offering givers. Offerings are also given on the Altar of our life!
Let’s read the definition of the word offer:
Verb. Denomination of everything that is offered: an offer of employment, services, products, favors, etc.
The offering doesn’t always come from you or me, in many situations, it comes from an invisible offering giver, and this offering giver is named satan. He is a true expert in the art of giving. He is well aware of the value and efficiency of an offering, this is, Satan also makes use of the offering to gain benefits through it. He plants today, convinced that he will reap tomorrow, and this seed is planted in the person’s inmost being, in the form of something that he offered us (an offering).
How often does an evil offering catch our attention? Vanity; pride by thinking that you are awesome and irreplaceable; a dream that hasn’t been fulfilled yet; a need that hasn’t been met; your body cries out because of a desire; your heart is infected by the virus of malice or deception; the pain of an injustice that leads you to justify your decisions; the younger woman that keeps flirting with you, even though you’re an older man; the cute boy trying to seduce you, even though you are not endowed with much beauty; among many other things… The list of offerings is endless!
And yes, all these offerings come from the devil for you and me. He is a relentless offering giver, always ready and willing to offer us something. He does not complain, and never, ever doubts that it’s worth it.
Now think: Have you given more value to something the devil has offered you or to the Altar? Are you this foolish person who values offerings more than the Altar?
You know you need to be baptized with the Holy Spirit, the devil is offering you a deception, an emotion, and you quickly accept it without hesitation. Foolish and blind!
You are illusioned with the image of an amazing body through a computer screen, or in person, so satan offers you such pleasure without anyone seeing or knowing, and you end up getting involved. Foolish and blind!
You dream of getting married, so perhaps the devil is offering you somebody, and you give a thousand excuses to allow yourself to accept this offering. Foolish and blind!
You need a job, so the devil offers you one that will keep you from going to Church. Foolish and blind!
Remember, every time you and I accept an offering from satan, it means that an altar was built for him within us. Be very careful with the value and attention you have given such offerings.
The Altar built in our lives for the Most High must always be preserved and valued, and it is from there that you and I should expect our sustenance, because it will certainly come. This is exactly what happened to the Lord Jesus after He rejected all of satan’s offerings:
Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. Matthew 4.11
Do not allow the devil to pour his unclean offerings on the Altar of your life! Do not become foolish and blind!
