Water of Life

Imagem de capa - Water of Life

A few months ago we opened our Church among the Maasai Tribe, located in Mile 46, Kajiado, Kenya. Among the many challenges of this tribe, one of the biggest is drought, since water is very difficult to be found and the only nearby well recently dried up. Tribe members had to walk more than five kilometers in search of water in the region’s rivers, which are also completely dry.

However, the same day the well dried up, we opened our wellspring. Members of the Universal Church gathered their offerings and hired a company to start a water well drilling program. With specialized equipment, they made a hole 300 meters deep until a groundwater source was found. What amazed everyone the most, and especially the contractors, was to find water under the ground of our Church. This was magnificent! This groundwater will be enough to supply the tribe for many, many years.

For the Maasai, water is worth more than gold, which confirms the popular notion that water is life. As soon as the tribal chief thanked the members of the Universal Church, a line soon formed, with people eager to receive free water, unlike some NGOs that also have a well, but charge for water.

It was remarkable to see people carrying gallons of water with the Church’s symbol, the saying “Jesus Christ is the Lord” and a verse that shows our motivation throughout this journey: But whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. John 4.14

During the meeting, we explained that, despite receiving the artesian water, we were there to give them the Water of Life, the Lord Jesus, because this is the only way for them to quench their thirst.

After the prayer of healing and deliverance, we distributed Bibles in the local language – the Maasai.

In addition to the opening of our well, the baptismal pool built on the Church property was used for the first time to bring 42 members of the tribe to consummate the surrender of their lives to the God of Abraham.

Since we have been in the Church for some time, we have become used to seeing joy on the faces of those who are baptized, but on this day, the joy they felt as they rose from the water was something that will remain in our memory. This was something they had never experienced before.

They got out of the water laughing and, at the same time, feeling surprised for not understanding where such joy was coming from. With a huge smile, some said: “I never felt this before!”

One more Church, one more Universal wellspring, that will quench the physical and spiritual thirst of thousands. Today, the Maasai are learning about a Living God, Whom they had never heard of before. With testimonies of people who were delivered from evil spirits, healed and restored, we can say with conviction: “The Maasai are the Universal!”

May God continue to bless the work that is being done among this tribe!
