What Does it Mean to Serve God?
Martha thought that she served God by the fact of doing things...
“But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me.” Luke 10:40
Martha thought that she served God by the fact of doing things. Nowadays, many people are deceiving themselves because they have done, or are doing something in the church or even in the work of God.
Doing is one thing, serving is another.
In what way am I doing it and for whom?
To serve is to do the will of the Lord.
And all the Lord wanted was for Martha to stop everything she was doing – to leave everything aside in order to place herself at His feet.
Many people say, “I have done chains of prayer, vows, fasts, prayers, the Fast of Daniel and I haven’t received the Holy Spirit. Why?”
It is because only one thing is needed: It is to leave everything aside and place yourself at the feet of Jesus, following Mary’s example. This is to serve God – to do His will.
To serve is to obey the will of God.
I can do something but if I do not obey, I am not serving Him.
“And Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.” Luke 10:42
Not everyone who does something, serve God. However, everyone who is at the feet of the Lord Jesus do things, and they do them with quality because they do the will of the Lord.
