3 PEOPLE IN THE BIBLE WHO TESTED GOD
Check out the video for three examples of people in the Bible who took this test and decided to test the One God, who can get you out of this situation!
You have heard: “Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good […]” (Psalms 34:8). King David says that we must prove God and see His goodness.
Some confuse “prove” with “tempt” God. It’s different. “To tempt” is to climb the top of a building and say: “I’m going to jump from here because God will hold me and won’t let anything bad happen to me”. It’s not like that. Proving God has nothing to do with it. It concerns a moment of urgent need in a person’s life. It is a moment of emergency in which the person needs God’s intervention. It’s the “all or nothing”. That’s where His Word is put to the test.
I’m going to talk about 3 people who tested God:
1) Peter:
In Matthew 14, the disciples were crossing the Sea of Galilee at dawn and saw, at a certain distance, a human figure walking on the waters. The Text says they thought it was a ghost and screamed with fear.
“AND Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water” (Matthew 14:28).
Note that the test with God is open even to those who doubt. Peter was unsure, but he made a test with God. He was brave. And Jesus told Peter to go. When we put God to the test, He also puts us to the test. And Peter walked on the waters for a while. He left a stunning lesson: don’t doubt.
If you have a question, make a test. But know that He will test you, too.
2) Elijah:
The case of the prophet Elijah illustrates the situation of people in a dangerous scenario. The prophets of Baal, who were enemies, were killing the prophets of God. Elijah was angry. This test with God illustrates what is available to people who are angry with their dire situation. Elijah represents these people because, in the revolt, he summoned all the prophets on Mount Carmel and made a test with God. And His Word was confirmed: the fire came down, proving that the true God was Elijah’s.
3) Widow of Zarephath:
Zarephath was in Sidon, a land that did not know the God of Israel. There had been a drought for more than three years. She was a widow and had a small son to feed. At the last meal she had available, the prophet Elijah, sent by God, made a test.
“And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son” (1 Kings 17:13).
She did not know the God of Israel, but she believed in the words of the prophet Elijah. And a miracle happened: her food was multiplied.
In these passages and many others, we see that God opens the doors to people who need to test Him in a critical situation.
You, who are in this situation, put the Word of God to the test.
