According to the Bible, there is a spirit that works in the children of disobedience: “in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience” (Ephesians 2:2).

Who are the “sons of disobedience”? It’s anyone who lives oblivious to God’s will. They live according to their own heart, path and will. When the son is obedient, even though he does not like the Father’s orders, he obeys. So, “sons of disobedience,” say to God: “No matter what is His will, I will do what I want”. That is why, most people in the world are the children of disobedience. And there is a spirit that works in them.

Without them knowing, they are being used. They think they are seeking freedom but are slaves to this disobedience. And they don’t understand that this is the result of the action of this spirit in them.

3 signs that the spirit of disobedience is in a person:

1) The person consciously knows what is right but does what is wrong.
They try not to feel bad about it. The spirit of disobedience is the one that keeps whispering in their ear, as it happened in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3). It says: “You don’t have to be that straight. It’s no problem. Everyone does it. You don’t have to take it literally.” When free of this spirit, the person can say “no”. The spirit of obedience is in them, and they are well-defined concerning their character.

2) When the person justifies their mistakes.
They do the wrong thing, but in addition, they justify their mistakes. For example, the husband cheats on his wife and says he has the right to be happy. Do you remember that the devil used the Bible (Psalm 91) to justify his reason why the Lord Jesus should throw Himself from the cliff? How many Christians justify their sins using the Bible? This is a diabolical action.

3) The person’s consciousness has already begun or is already seared.
“Seared” is “anaesthetised”, “insensitive”. Their conscience doesn’t weigh anymore. There’s not even remorse.

Finally…

Bonus: People walk according to the course of this world. But not us. We entered through the narrow door. We are walking against the world.
If you have identified yourself with these signs, you must cry out to the One who casts out this spirit of disobedience: the Lord Jesus (read in Ephesians). God frees the person when they turn to God, repent, cry out for forgiveness and abandon the wrong life to live in obedience to God. The Pastor’s prayer does not cast away this spirit; you have to cast out this spirit that is in your mind. That’s when you decide you no longer want to live in sin.
