3 THINGS THAT DISTANCE YOU FROM GOD
Have you ever felt distant from God? These three things may be the cause of you feeling distant. But the question is: what do you intend to do about it?
Three things that distance you from God. And you need to pay attention to this because God is close to all of us, and the distance between us and Him is the distance of a prayer. It’s not a physical distance; it’s a spiritual distance. Just as a husband and a woman may be occupying the same house but distant from each other, we can also be distant from God. Let’s see what distances us from God:
1) Our own will:
Our will is rarely aligned with God’s will. There are things that we want that, yes, are following His Word. For example, you want to restore your marriage. This is clear in the Word (that God hates divorce; what God has united, man should not separate). But that’s not always the will of the spouses. God, in His perfect love, wants people to love Him of their own free will. So, for His will to be done in us, we have to align our will with His. And this will inevitably involve, many times, giving up our own will (because His will is good, perfect and pleasant). When we do our will (regardless of what God wants for our life), we go down a path that can distance us from God and into suffering. In the “Lord’s Prayer”, the Lord Jesus taught us that the Father’s will must be done. You have to ask yourself: is there anything I have wanted that contradicts God’s will for my life?
2)Sin:
The Lord is not deaf towards us; our sins separate us from God (Isaiah 59). What is sin? It is disobedience to the Word of God; it is to go in the opposite direction to what is best for you, which God has already determined. The biblical word used for “sin” means “to miss the target”. When you miss the target, you’re sinning. For example, you want peace with your family, but someone hurt you. So, your target is peace, but if you don’t forgive the person or treat them well, you’re missing the target. You have no control over the other person, but you can control yourself. The only way for a human being to be saved is if they solve the problem with sin, obeying and believing the Savior, the Lord Jesus. So, recognise your sin and abandon it.
3) The fascination with the world:
“(…) If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him” (1 John 2:15). The culture of this world has nothing to do with God. The Bible says that the one who controls this world nowadays is the devil, thanks to the human being (who handed over the dominion to him). You call yourself a Christian, but you follow worldly people; you admire people because of their success. Many Christians seek in the world, which is darkness, some kind of light. Riches, fashion, fame, and sex, among other things, be fascinated and do not doubt that you will run in the opposite direction to God.
Note if any of the above topics (or all three) are separating you from God. What will you do about it?
