3 THINGS YOU NEED TO FREE YOURSELF FROM
There are three main causes that imprison the human being, among others. However, there is only one way to free yourself from all of them.
One of the Lord Jesus’ main missions when He came to this world was to free the human being.
In one of His first visits to the synagogues, He read the passage of Isaiah, which said that He came into the world, among other things, to proclaim liberty to the captives (Isaiah 61).
When He was among the captives, He said, “Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36). Many think they are free, but they are captives. It’s a false freedom. He was, so to speak, teaching that there was false freedom and true freedom (which is the one He gives).
In their youth, many say: “I do what I want and no one rules me”. And, in this search for freedom, they become a slave to addictions, to sex, etc. The person becomes a slave to this lifestyle. They say to their parents, “I’m free”. They become a slave to friends who offer them drugs and other bad things. They submit to their friends’ will because they have severed ties with their family and cannot be rejected by their friends because otherwise, they have to go back home to their parents. That’s false freedom.
So, what can imprison the human being? Let’s check out the three main things which the Lord Jesus came to free us:
1) The sense of freedom. This makes you become a slave to your desires. Your will can enslave you. When you follow what you want, you become a slave. We don’t know how to desire for something. We want what is good, but we want what is bad too. Our will is against us.
For example, you want to eat what is bad for you. The doctor says there is a risk of diabetes, but when the food is in front of you, you’re seeing it, but you can’t resist. Our desire is against us.
Many fall in love with someone who is not good for them (whether with someone already married, or not a good person), but they go on with it. The person knows it will end badly, but the heart asks, and they continue with the relationship. If you want to free yourself from your will, come to God and say, “Lord, let Your will be done and not mine”.
2) Religion. Unfortunately, religion also enslaves. I speak of all religions because they were created by man, who needs to believe (whether in science or himself). The devil created many religions and enslaved human beings with them. The person puts religion above God. But the Lord Jesus came to free us from this. When He said that we would be free, the context is that He was, precisely, in a heated debate against the religious ones of that time.
3) Sin. Humans are programmed to sin. You don’t need to teach a child to sin. At the age of 3, they lie to deceive their father and mother and avoid punishment for something that happened. Sin is in our DNA. If you do not free yourself, you will live to serve your sin.
And there is a bonus – To be free from Satan, who enslaves humanity so much.
