A dangerous combination

Part 2 of 7
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing, to practice wicked works
With men who work iniquity; and do not let me eat of their delicacies. – Psalm 141:4
Combine these two things: your heart + bad company, and what do you get? An evil version of you.
A certain married lady went to college, where she made friends with numerous single ladies. After a while, her friends convinced her to follow them into a local pub “just for a drink”. She gradually fell in love with her friends’ “free as a bird” lifestyle — lots of laughs and attention from the men around the college, lots of flirting going on. Suddenly, that lifestyle became the joy of her life. Her marriage started to look more like a prison, and her husband like the warden. It didn’t take long for her to start drinking too much, fighting with her husband whenever she came home late, to the point of telling him, “You should have some fun as well! Why don’t you ever go out? I don’t mind if you go out with other women.”
Evil lies within the heart of us all. Usually, it remains dormant, while our head is centered and focused on positive things. But, when we get close to people who practice evil or when we eat of their “delicacies”, our wicked side is awakened.
Notice that making friends with these people isn’t always necessary. Eating of the delicacies of the wicked means to buy into their ideas, read their books, watch their videos, and follow their example. Why do you think the world became more evil after last century’s boom of the means of communication?
Consider this:
- Have you been “naughty” to your spouse or the people close to you sometimes? What has trigged this bad behavior?
- Is there any friendship or contact you need to cut loose from your life or social networks?
- Have you been careful with the content of what you’ve been taking in — books, movies, websites, music, news, TV programs, etc.?
This is the third part of a seven-day meditation on Psalm 141. If you wish to do it from the start, then start here. Here’s how to join in:
- Read Psalm 141 in your Bible and meditate on its words throughout this week.
- Make a prayer request to God for your love life (or any other area where there is a more urgent need) during the morning hours for seven days as of today.
- Be specific in your request; write it down on a sheet of paper and keep it in your Bible, on the page of Psalm 141.
- Log on to this blog daily and read the messages that will follow.
- On the seventh day (March 26), take your request to the Love Therapy meeting nearest to you and give it to the pastor in charge.
- This is optional: invite someone, who is in need of this, to join you in doing this challenge.
Let’s do this challenge together. Do exactly as instructed. Have faith that your request will be answered.
