ADDICTED TO ANTISEPTIC: IT’S NOT WHAT YOU DID, IT’S WHAT YOU DO
It doesn't matter what you've already done, but what you're doing now! The past cannot change or come back, but you can make the present and future different.
“It doesn’t matter what you’ve already done; what matters is what you’re doing now.” Pay close attention to this truth.
Perhaps you have always believed in and practised justice and honesty. But you thought you would reap the rewards for all the years you acted correctly. But that’s not what’s happening. So, the thought that comes to your mind is: “What was the point for me to do everything right? It’s better to give up.”
Pay attention to how life really works. Life exists in the fantasy of our heads, and there is reality. In fantasy, we should climb a step at every moment without injustices. But in the real world, that doesn’t happen.
See an example of one of the greatest prophets: Elijah. He was a real man of faith. When he prayed, the fire literally fell from the heaven. He was a man of challenge (he challenged Jezabel, the false prophets). He either made it or broke it and also proved that only the Lord is God.
When the fire came down and Elijah proved God’s value, he expected King Ahab to regret having married Jezabel, send her away and restore the worship to the Most High from the people. But the opposite happened: Jezebel promised to kill Elijah in less than 24 hours.
He ran to the mountain and said to God: “For me, it’s already over. That’s enough. I can’t take it anymore. All the people broke the covenant. It was only me [something he overstated a little because a group had not bowed to Baal]. I have been extremely zealous with you. They killed the prophets, and now they want to kill me.”
Elijah vented to God. But see that his whole focus was on the past, what he had already done and what had happened. And God didn’t fall for that conversation. He didn’t say: “It’s true. You were strong, Elijah. I saw that you didn’t disappoint me.” God didn’t fall for his history of victories. God said what Elijah had to do in the present and the future.
God said: “Go back by your way [which, in other words, was that Elijah should not have gone there]. Arriving in the Damascus desert, you will raise a king and Elisha as a prophet in your place.” God has already changed Elijah, not that he stopped having the anointing, but that
He brought a replacement because Elijah thought he was finished, so someone else would follow in his place. Still, God did not patch Elijah’s wounds.
Sometimes, we also want people to feel sorry for us. People who say: “Really, you’re a hero”. But God doesn’t fall for it. If God doesn’t fall for it, why should you feel sorry for yourself? Why should you look at what it’s been? You have to look at the “today” if you want to survive. It’s what you do today that counts, not what you’ve been through or faced. If you don’t keep walking, you won’t move on to the present and the future. If you don’t keep working, you will fail.
