FAST OF DANIEL: WHAT IT IS, WHY AND HOW TO DO IT

Have you ever heard about the Fast of Daniel? Have you ever wondered why you should do the Fast of Daniel? How to do it? You may have several questions, but I propose you do it till the end and see the significant results

What is the Fast of Daniel, why and how to do it?

You may have heard of the Fast of Daniel, or perhaps it’s the first time. But if you want to be more intelligent, have more self-control, be closer to God, have more sensitivity to the voice of God and want to grow spiritually, then the Fast of Daniel is for you.

Let’s understand the Fast of Daniel and where that name comes from.

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself” (Daniel 1:8).

Daniel was a young Hebrew who had been captive to Babylon, like many other Hebrews. And some young people were recruited to serve in the palace. Then, they would be prepared and give them clothes, food and teaching.

And he realised that the Babylonian food and drinks would hurt him, both physically and spiritually. Where there is wine, there is a party; there are vain conversations. Daniel did not want to become a Babylonian; he wanted to maintain his identity as a young man of God. He didn’t want to mix with those environments, people and customs. So, he started with food but extended it to his behaviour and friendships. He proposed to remain upright despite the environment in which he lived.

This has never been as current as it is today. On days when people are mixed up on social media, following many people, looking at the lives of others. It has never been so essential for you not to get contaminated with the “wine” of this world. Now, I’m not talking about food but about customs, beliefs, words, and information that get you dirty and make you a copy of the world. Even those who say “I’m different” are copies of a set of people.

That’s why Daniel proposed to isolate himself. And he asked the chief of the young people to change his diet.

“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants” (Daniel 1:12-13).

“And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies” (Daniel 1:15).

That is, those who do the Fast of Daniel notice the difference in a short time.

So, these days, it’s not a fasting of food. As I said, Daniel started with the food. But in all his behaviour, he isolated himself from Babylon.

Concerning what you eat, consult your nutritionist and your doctor.

The Fast of Daniel concerns not your body but your mind and brain.

What do you “ingest” with your eyes and ears? And what do you do with what’s on your mind? This is the Fast of Daniel.

You will select information that is useful (in particular, the information that brings you closer to God). And, therefore, receive from Him the intelligence, the direction for the things you need to do. God gave Daniel the ability to face a hostile environment.

The Book tells how he was persecuted by envious people (such as in the lion’s den). We are all surrounded by people who want to see us stumble and root for our defeat. So, you must learn to connect with God to stand out.

Society today is totally anti-God. And if you don’t care for yourself, you’ll become like everyone else. You see “evangelicals” doing what the world does. The only difference between them and the others is that they say they are “evangelical”. They’ve already mixed up. They are in the middle of “Babylon” and have become like the “Babylonians”.

That’s the reason why you should do the Fast of Daniel.

Now, how do you do the Fast of Daniel?

For this purpose, we suggest you do it for at least 21 days. And we will start on Sunday, November 19th.

You will only access information from this world that is really necessary for your work and study.

Other than that, you will cut all consumption of useless information. Including: social media, surfing store websites (which make you want products), all kinds of games (video games, football, something that brings you distractions), secular music, the news of this world, and TV series. You’ll rule all this out.

You can follow Christian content and spiritual books (especially the Bible). The Gospel of John, for example, has 21 chapters. You can read one chapter a day. Listen to messages of faith that lift you and instruct you. Go to church more to learn the Word of God. Pray more and keep your mind connected with God (even if you don’t close your eyes, don’t bend your knees; your spirit is in constant conversation with God).

What will you notice over these 21 days? You will have less anxiety, worry, and distraction and hear more of God’s voice, which will be reflected in your life and decisions.

Try it. Are you up for doing the Fast of Daniel with us?

Ask God what you should do. The Spirit of God Himself will show you how you can please Him.

It will be 21 days for us to disconnect from the world, detoxify ourselves from useless information and connect more with God to hear His voice.

Then you come back here and tell me how it went.
