Today, I want to talk about generational curses. There is a little-known story of the suicide curse in the Vargas family. In 1954, during a government crisis, trying to resist the fall, Getúlio Vargas shot himself in the chest and killed himself. Thus, leaving Brazil shocked and a great stain on the family itself.

The children, impacted by something so negative, are expected to think: “I will do it differently. I’ll never walk that same path. Look at the suffering this has brought to the whole family.” But it seems the person is under its control regarding a curse. Getúlio left a son, who became mayor of Porto Alegre (RS Brazilian state). Almost at the end of his life, at 79, he also committed suicide by shooting himself in the chest. He repeated his father’s tragedy. And in 2017, Getúlio’s grandson also committed suicide. He was found dead in the apartment with a bullet in his head at 61. Would you say that this is all a sad coincidence? Do you think Getúlio’s son or grandson didn’t suffer because of what happened?

The word “curse” deals with something evil someone has said against a life. Someone said words of condemnation, a sentence or destruction about that life at some point, someone with authority over that person. “Curse” comes from the power to determine evil in someone’s life, and it’s the power of the word. This makes us understand that the only way to cancel a curse is if someone with greater authority than the person who said the curse cancels it. It’s like a judge saying, “this will no longer stand”.

Thus, intelligence allied with faith tells us that God is the only one who can cancel a curse. He wants to rid human beings of the curses that arise from their disobedience. Did you know that one of the reasons his Son, the Lord Jesus, came into the world to die on the cross was to become a curse in our place? It was to absorb our curses upon Him so that we could get rid of them. Don’t say that God doesn’t do anything. He gave His own Son. But God will not impose His will on people. The condition for people to be freed from curses is obedience to the Word of God. He is the greatest authority.

In this way, you must subject your life to the Word of God, which will bring deliverance. Automatically, His Word will cancel the curses said against you and your ancestors (parents, grandparents). You are under a new authority. And against this one, no one can stand. This consists of true deliverance from the curses. What do you choose, curse or blessing?
