“I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” – Genesis 12:3

When God made this promise to Abraham, He did not exclude any family. This means that your family and mine are included in this blessing!

But how do we know if we are descendants of Abraham and therefore heirs of this promise?
The Bible teaches us in Romans 4:11 that Abraham is the father of all those who believe. In other words, what makes us his descendants is not the biological lineage but rather faith.

If you believe in God as Abraham believed, then you are a descendant of him and are entitled to the promises that God made to him. This is confirmed in Galatians 3:29:

“And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Therefore, if you belong to Christ, this promise is also for you!

What does a blessed family mean?

If God promises that all families will be blessed, why don’t all seem to be? After all, many families face problems such as conflict, fights and financial difficulties.

A blessed family is one where there is peace, love, respect, prosperity and above all, God’s presence.The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:19 that those who believe are part of God’s family.

Jesus reinforced this truth when, in Luke 8:21, he said: “My mother and My brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it.”

This means that to be part of God’s family and inherit His promises, we need to hear and live His Word.

Many people believe in God, but the Bible warns us that even the devil believes and trembles (James 2:19). So, what does it mean to really believe?

Imagine the following scenario: When my wife Cristiane and I adopted our son, we wanted to gain his trust. Once, I took him to a tree and put him sitting on a branch. He was afraid and hesitant, so I said, “Jump, I’ll catch you!”
He took a long time to trust, but when he finally jumped, and I caught him, he laughed and said: “Let’s go again!”

That’s believing! At first, we are afraid, we doubt, we hesitate. But when we finally trust and take the step of faith, we realise that God is faithful to hold us.

People often trust blindly in human promises, banks, relationships and even scammers, but they find it difficult to trust God fully.

Believing means placing your trust in God without reservations. Just as we trust that the bank will keep our money without having to check it daily, we must trust that God will fulfil His Word.

Take possession of God’s promise to your family.

If you believe, then this promise is yours!

“In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3)

It doesn’t matter how your family is today. If you decide to trust God and His promise, He will begin to transform your home. What was once a curse will be converted into a blessing because the Word of God is always fulfilled in the lives of those who believe.
