HOW DO YOU IDENTIFY THE FALSE AND THE GENUINE?
God gave us a guide to know and understand what is true and what is false. Learn how to discern the fruit that the tree produces.
One of the missions the Lord Jesus accomplished while in this world, was to warn His followers about false people who posed as one thing but were indeed something else. Why did He warn about this? Within the entire sphere of society, there will always exist both the fake and the genuine, but when we deal with what is spiritual, the consequences of deception are much more serious.
For example, you may suffer a loss in the business sphere, but the money can be recovered. Some doctors practice medicine to make profits (in this case, it is more serious). Some people pretend to be someone in dating, and the spouse only discovers the reality in marriage. However, in your spiritual life, it is your soul that is at stake. That’s why the Lord Jesus has always warned us about those who want to take our souls.
Jesus said: “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. You will know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes from thornbushes or figs from thistles? Even so, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a bad tree bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Therefore by their fruits you will know them” (Matthew 7:15-20).
See that the “prophets” are on the hunt for unwise people. How do I know if a person is from God? Well, Jesus has already given the hint. You will not know the person of God by how well they preach the Word or if they perform miracles because many do not practice what they preach. In the same chapter, in verse 22, the Lord Jesus says that people who have done wonders in his Name may not be saved in the end. But are the miracles done by these people true or false? It depends. What causes the miracle is the faith of the person added to the Name of the Lord Jesus. However, the miracle can be false, caused by the devil, which makes the problem “disappear”.
So, when we talk about a fruit, we can’t just look at the exterior. It may be that the exterior is attractive, but the fruit comes with bugs inside. This way, when the person experiences the taste of a fruit, they know if it is good or not. Thus, we know the fruit of a person if they have the “taste” of an honest, true character who seeks to walk in justice and does not take advantage of their position of religious leadership. The true man of God teaches the person to depend only on God. On the other hand, the false wants to put himself between Him and the person.
Be attentive. And be careful that you also are not a false one, with an appearance of religiosity, but are not truly from God on the inside.
