I LET IT INTO THE HEART

Be careful with what you let into your heart because it is like your home, where you only let in who do you good. "Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man." Matthew 15:11

The Lord Jesus said that what defiles a man is not what he eats, eating without washing his hands or other rituals that the men of that time insisted that his disciples observe (Read in Matthew 15 or Mark 7). Of course, he’s not saying you shouldn’t care for your hygiene. He spoke in the religious context of the time, in which the religious prioritised the details of traditions more than the spirit of tradition.

And in this Text, He talks about “not letting it into the heart”. You must protect your heart. We have to treat our hearts like our homes. You don’t let anyone enter your house. You bring family members, people you trust, who won’t learn something about you to do something wrong to you. Likewise, we have to watch our hearts. What can get into the heart that makes you sick? When you take something personally.

If you let everything they say into your heart, you’re lost. Because you will start to get hurt by people, you will make a list of people and will put a lot of effort into managing what will make you sick.

You can close your heart to it without allowing it to enter your personal side. What was the strategy of the Lord Jesus in carrying the cross? Some people spat on Him, pulled out His hair, kicked Him. You can imagine what He suffered without having done anything. Many people received Him well before even seeking blessings, but moved by fake news, they took that attitude.

Today, we experience this, too. Many believe in the news without thinking. On social media, anyone can say whatever they want. Some people have been falsely accused. There are cases of people lynched because of fake news.

And the Lord Jesus suffered terrible abuse. It had to be a perfect sacrifice. In other words, He could not be sacrificed with a grudge in His heart, with hatred. Then Jesus prayed for people: “Father, forgive these people because they don’t know what they do.” This was the strategy of the Lord Jesus: He asked God to forgive them.

We do not have to bring all the information, feelings, or conclusions to our minds. With a piece of information, the person concludes the whole story. We don’t need to do that. If you learn to protect your heart, you will live a lighter and happier life, have more peace, make better decisions, and be more pleasant.

Ask yourself: did I let things into my heart that hurt me?

Put a stone on the past.

And if you’re tempted to let something into your heart, discard that. Pray for these people.

Meditate on this through the message in the video above.
it is and how not to let it get in your life.
