THIS AMAZES ME A LOT TODAY
We are servants of whom we obey; that is, your behaviour, actions, and reactions tell a lot about who is in first place in your life. The question that occurs is: who is your lord?
King Solomon said: “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done. In other words, history repeats itself. And when we look at the Scriptures, we see precisely this. Unfortunately, the human being does not seem to learn from previous generations. It’s like a rebellious teenager saying, “I want to make my own mistakes. Let me be wrong.” They think the only way to learn is by making mistakes. However, “the fool needs to make mistakes to learn, but even so, they do not learn; the intelligent one makes mistakes, but learns; the wise one learns from the mistakes of others”.
Now, when we look at the story of Gideon (Judges 6), right in the first verse, we see that the people of Israel did something evil in the eyes of the Lord: they mixed with the other peoples of the Promised Land and embraced their idols.
However, this did not only happen at that time. This happened today. I am amazed that even today, in the era of artificial intelligence of all information, people adore idols. When someone opened the Bible for me and told me of the Word of God, of what was idolatry, I said: “What? Is this a sin? What my parents do and what they have taught me to do all my life is wrong in the eyes of God? I don’t want this for my life.”
I’m not talking about religion because even though the person is evangelical, they can have idols. But people have access to information and make mistakes. Some people have science as an idol. But science comes from God. However, man exchanges God for science. These people exchange God for diplomas. Others idolise people (they put their son above all else, for example). How many became atheists because their mother died in an accident? They exchanged God for their mother. They put a person above God. This is one of the paths evil chooses to enter someone’s life, as happened to the people of Israel in the time of Gideon. They exchanged God for idols, so the enemies began to prevail. It was 7 years of total destruction.
Some people want God to help them, but, in practice, they worship another god. If He is not the first in your life, He will not be the second. He won’t be with you. You have to understand how the relationship between the creature and the Creator works. You put Him above your will. God doesn’t force anyone. But although you are not forced to seek God, you will always be forced to reap the consequences (and they will not be good).
