REVEALED ‼️ THE TRUE SHELTER OF THE MOST HIGH (Psalm 91)

This is God’s promise to those who are and remain in the shelter of the Most High: take refuge in Him and have this guarantee

“He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation” (Psalms 91:15-16).

We realise the emphasis that God gives us when He uses words such as “I will answer” and “I will deliver”. He is promising with certainty to the one who is in the Shelter, to the one who loved Him and has attached himself to Him earnestly. He offers that certainty. We can have peace, He says at the beginning of the Psalm. With such guarantees, we can find peace in fulfilment of these promises.

You must call upon God, but you should not treat Him like a superhero who puts on a red cape and saves us in times of danger. He places on us the responsibility of calling upon Him (praying, crying out) with the assurance that He will answer us. It’s not always the answer we want, but it’s always the right answer.

See how interesting: “(…) I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him (…)”. For a moment, God allows trouble because they are necessary moments linked to our human condition. Being born is a risk, and living is a risk because we are connected to our human condition in a world that lives in the open field of the most low. So, there are things that splash on us. But He says He will be with us in trouble. It doesn’t matter if it’s a day of happiness or trouble; He’s with you. God will deliver you from the worst and not leave you alone in trouble. God is pleased to honour those who honour Him.

Therefore, He teaches us not to seek the glory of this world. The people of this world run after vanities and personal glory. But the only glory you should worry about is the glory from the Father.

When He says “long life”, it is essential that you understand that, at that time, people attributed the goodness of God to the length of life. In the New Testament, this understanding has changed through the Lord Jesus because we understand that true life is not on Earth but in eternity. For example, the Lord Jesus, when He came here, lived 33 and a half years. There was a purpose in this because it was the prime of His age, like the new lambs that were sacrificed at the prime of their youth.

Of course, no one wants to die early on Earth. But the spiritual understanding of the long life in the New Testament took the following form, which Paul translated precisely when he said: “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21). That is, when you are in Jesus, it doesn’t matter if you die at the age of 20, 30, 50 or 100. Because at the moment of death, you pass into life. This concept of Psalm 91 can be understood as follows: who will live in the Shelter of the Most High will live full time. You will not live more or less than God has determined for you here. The devil won’t be able to shorten your life. You will fulfil your time here. And you go at the right time.

But remember that the Bible says: “Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His saints” (Psalm 116:15). Maybe you know someone who died early. If the person was saved, they didn’t die; they’re living.

And this is the end point of the Psalm: “and show him My Salvation”. After everything done on Earth, everything lived, everything that Psalm 91 said from the beginning (you went through the snare of the fowler, the perilous pestilence, stepped on the lion and the cobra, you went through everything), but if in the end you are not saved, it is no use.

Interestingly, the word “Salvation” in the original Text is “Yeshuah”, which points to the Name of the Lord Jesus in Hebrew. God says, “and show him My ‘Yeshuah’ (which is Jesus, My Son)”.

You conclude that the Lord Jesus, the Saviour, is the Shelter of the Most High. As He said: “If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you (…) (John 15:7). So when you close your eyes on this Earth, you will open them in Heaven to contemplate Him and to live eternity with Him.
