RUN FOR YOUR LIVES

Did you know that there is a compass inside you? Yes, and you can use it every day to know the right path you should go.

In the first speech of the apostle Peter, soon after receiving the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost, he spoke, among other things, the following words:

“[…] Be saved from this perverse generation” (Acts 2:40).

He didn’t mean Salvation of the soul because we can’t save ourselves; we need the Saviour. He was talking about an attitude of not mixing themselves with the people around them, with the way of this world, and with the way this world is conducted. If we don’t do that, we will be swallowed by this generation; we will be part of it. It seeks the exaltation of itself; everything contrary to God is a path to perdition.

What’s going on in the world today? Families are destroyed. Why are children depressed? We see the suffering coming earlier and earlier. The family is disappearing. That idea of the son having the arms and the hug of the mother and father is becoming increasingly rare. So, there are angry, depressed children being raised by the mobile phone. It is a cold generation with no fixed value (everything is relative). It is a perverse generation; it has left the original pattern and is increasingly distant from the root, from the Creator.

Peter’s advice, which echoed through the streets of Jerusalem almost 2,000 years ago, is much more valid today. Be careful with whom you walk, what you consume, the circles you go to, and the opinions you say are yours (but they are echoes that you have absorbed from this generation).

“Be saved from this perverse generation” is what you are hearing and normalising. God gave us an internal compass that says, ” This is not right.”

I remember that once I was at the door of the school, and I had a disagreement with a student. It was the first time I said swearing words in a public way and for everyone to hear. I remember there was a gentleman next to me, and he just looked at me with disapproval. I wasn’t converted, but when I saw his face of disappointment, I felt terrible. Because inside me there was a compass that pointed out that as wrong. Nowadays, in most social circles, the abnormal is not to swear. Things have changed.

God gives you this compass. And when its needle starts vibrating, saying you’re on the wrong track, it’s God trying to talk to you. You’d better get out of this wrong way. There is still hope for you. But if you no longer have sensitivity, only a miracle can save you from it.

Are you separating from this perverse generation, or are you slowly joining it?
