The curse of feeling
NOTICE: The following text may offend the highly sensitive.
Mankind’s greatest mistake is to place emotions above intelligence. People worry more about their feelings than trying to understand what’s really happening to them and the world around. That’s why they get it wrong. That’s why they get depressed. That’s why they argue.
As long as I was caught up in the emotions of my marriage problems they grew. When I started to use my head and ignore my emotions, we started to solve our problems one by one.
People who live by their emotions act without thinking of the consequences. They rarely ask “why,” or try to understand what’s really going on or what’s the best thing to do.
Why are they like this?
- Because when the wife gets on their nerves, it’s easier to get up, slam the door and go to the bar.
- Because when someone says something that you don’t like, it’s easier to attack the person, cuss them out and denigrate their character.
- Because it’s easier to believe in the pretty story they tell you.
- Because when you’re feeling low, it’s easier to slump, stay at home in your pajamas, call your boss and tell him you won’t be able to work today.
- Because when someone challenges you to think and improve, it’s easier to ignore them and think they’re a snob.
People who live by their feelings are intelligent too. They just haven’t learned emotional intelligence – which is, to know themselves and others, their emotional reactions, and not be dominated by them.
Whoever is dominated by the emotions of their heart will pay a high price in life. The highest is to be fooled for a lifetime.
The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it? Jeremiah 17:9
