THE DEATH OF SAUL (KINGS): HOW PEOPLE BECOME LOST
How can Saul's choices help you? Reflect if you haven't made these same choices
One of the saddest stories in the Bible is that of Saul, the first king of Israel. The Scriptures say: “So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord, because he did not keep the word of the Lord, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance” (1 Chronicles 10:13). Saul did not immediately die after his mistake. He insisted for 30 years on it.
First, it is important to remember that the prophet Samuel had already died and Saul had had the prophets of God killed. That is, no one could carry God’s message to Saul. The king would not listen to anyone else. And, in despair, about to die in battle, Saul consulted a sorceress, a medium. See, that, there, was the “last nail in the coffin” of Saul, as the Bible explains. In other words, with that act, Saul “said”: “I am exchanging the God of Israel for demons”. Maybe he wasn’t fully aware of the choice he was making, but he knew it was wrong.
This situation reminds me of the situation of people who are fighting against God. Saul was killing everything that showed him that he was wrong. Nowadays, some people live to criticise Pastors, Churches and Christians. They are people who “machine-gun” those who speak the Word of God to them. So people’s hatred of those who speak spiritual truth is similar to what happened to Saul. Saul’s death was so sad. He had his head cut off and taken as a trophy by the Philistines. They did to Saul what David did to Goliath.
And I also think of those people who, like Saul, seek out fortune-tellers. You who, consciously or unconsciously, seek palm reading, mediums, consult the dead, the zodiac signs, the cards, the spirits or the future, you are provoking the wrath of God. When a person seeks help or belief other than God, that is betrayal or idolatry. Saul died because he did not keep the Word of the Lord. God spoke to him in different ways, but Saul countered and resisted. Whoever rejects the Word of God brings death to themselves.
My dear friend, once again God is reaching out to you. I hope you don’t do like Saul. But with humbleness, may you accept the opportunity to return to Him, be forgiven and be saved. Check out the video above and talk to God about it.
