THE IMPACT OF CHILDHOOD ON YOUR LIFE

Don't outsource your faith. God gave you the ability to reach Him, to pray and be heard, so do not despise putting it in someone else's hands.

Even if you have not had present parents, God presents Himself as a Father to those who repent and give themselves to Him.

“Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

This proverb has much more to do with you – regardless of whether you are a father or mother – than with parenting skills.

At first, the teaching here is that the father and mother must teach the right way to the child so that he is rooted in it and, even as an adult, has boundaries, roots, and principles by which he can guide his decisions.

When we dive into this Word, whether we have children or not, we understand that what happens in our childhood impacts us for the rest of our lives.

It is important to understand how your childhood may still be impacting your adult life so that you can get to know yourself and free yourself from the ties that began there through the experiences you had in your home and family.

When we look at this, we see that not even the heroes of faith were immune to this fact. Today, one of the world’s most central wars is in the Middle East. Where did this start? Back there with Abraham. Isaac’s children fighting against Ishmael’s sons and vice versa. The descendants of two children from the same father.

We also have another story of parents who favoured their children. It was the case of Isaac and Rebecca with the twins Esau and Jacob. The Bible says that parents did not hide their preferences. And what happened? The brothers’ enmity. And Jacob didn’t learn the lesson. He also preferred one of the 12 children, Joseph, which made the brothers envy and hate him.

This is a human characteristic. The way we feel loved or not by our parents impacts our behaviour. It’s not by chance that God created the family. The family must have a father, mother, and children present there. And not the mess we have in the world today. Society is reflecting on all this.

But what is my point? You must understand God’s plan. The gospel of Matthew, chapter 3, in verses 16 and 17, reports when Jesus was baptised in the waters (“When He had been baptised, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him. And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased”).

That is, before all the witnesses, the Father in Heaven affirmed His love for His beloved son, Jesus, and gave His Spirit to be with Him. This is a model of what should happen. The Word of God provides us with the way: to be born again, to know the heavenly Father. Regardless of the type of father or mother you had or have here, you can discover your value when you are born of God and meet your original Father, the heavenly Father, the spiritual Father.

There are things in our lives that can only be fixed by the death of our old self and the birth of a new creature in us. This happens when we meet our heavenly Father. Baptism in the waters is the way of rebirth. You must believe in Him, seek repentance, and receive the Holy Spirit because when this happens to you, as it happened to Jesus, who gave us the example, you will also have this voice from heaven confirming who you are: a child of His.
