It was the 12th century, in southern Germany, in the city of Weinsburg. At the time, Germany was still under the rule of the Roman Empire, and King Conrad III decided to invade and take the city. After a long siege, he allowed the women to leave carrying what they could. Surprisingly, they left goods behind and carried their husbands on their backs. The king, honouring his word, allowed them to leave unharmed.

The ruins of the castle still exist in Weinsburg, known as “The Loyalty of the Wife.” This story teaches two lessons: the value of the word and loyalty in marriage. Unfortunately, this loyalty has become rare. What really makes a family happy are not material goods but principles such as honour, respect, and commitment. Today, many families are fragmented, resulting from a society that is increasingly distant from these values.

It’s not about judging anyone but reflecting on a social and spiritual reality. Marriage and family are reflections of the Kingdom of God. God created the family as a divine representation: the father symbolises God, the mother represents the church, and the children learn to share and respect. However, many have lost this vision and consider the family something outdated.

Materialistic society devalues the role of the mother, but her influence on raising children is invaluable. While the father provides, the mother educates, and this work is priceless. God also teaches parents through their children because the love and pain of a father reflect God’s relationship with humanity.

Marriage symbolises the covenant between God and His people. When we understand this covenant, we understand the divine commitment to us. If you want to be close to God, value your family and heal past grievances. The restoration of the heart is an essential step to living in communion with God. After all, if an earthly king keeps his word, let alone the King of Kings.
