WARNING: KNOWLEDGE IS SEDUCING
Knowing is not doing! Don't be mistaken only with your acquired knowledge; practising what you have learnt is the most important thing.
Knowledge is seducing. The thirst for knowledge can seduce many people, even by mistake. Knowing is not doing. Knowing what forgiveness is is not forgiving. It is not because you teach about forgiveness that you practice forgiveness. It is not because you know about physical exercise and food that you care for your health.
But theoretical knowledge is very seducing. Because the more we know, the more we can debate the subject. And therefore, we may have the illusion that we know that. Just as you would prefer to go through a doctor who has already performed several surgeries for 30 years than a doctor who has just gone through university, we have to think about it on the spiritual level because when we deal with biblical knowledge, it gets even more serious.
“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” (Matthew 7:24,25).
Note that Jesus is talking about “hearing” the words. There is a difference between “hearing and practising” and “just hearing”. So, the house built on the rock is the practice of the word heard from the Lord Jesus.
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall” (Matthew 7:26,27).
So Jesus spoke to those who hear the Word of God but do not practice it. They’re foolish people. And this has happened to many people, unfortunately, not only in faith but in various areas of life. For example, we have famous men in the business world who have never graduated from college. Bill Gates, for instance, left Harvard; however, years later, he received an “honorary doctorate” because his practical achievements made him a “doctor” in that field of activity because, more than studying, he did, he learnt by doing.
I’m not diminishing the importance of studying. The Word of God tells us to gather knowledge. However, knowledge alone can deceive us.
The world is full of people supposedly trained by the knowledge they demonstrate in what they teach, but it is necessary to have a more accurate look.
For example, what is the regard you put on the scale about an alleged religious person, who has a degree of Theology on the wall, and on the other side, you have a man of God or a woman of God who brings the marks of Christ on the body because of the faith they proclaim? Who do you prefer to learn from?
So, I speak not only in the matter of you evaluating the supposed “doctors” of this world (the “doctors” of the internet or piece of paper), but I speak mainly about you.
It is not because you know verses by heart, love to study the Bible and read books about It, or listen to gospel music that you can delude yourself into thinking that all this is enough. Clearly, what the Lord Jesus has always taught us was that His disciples are those who listen and practice. It is not those who say “Lord, Lord,” but those who do what He commands. So, an ounce of practice of the Word of God is worth more than a ton of theory.
