WAS THERE FORGIVENESS FOR THOSE WHO CRUCIFIED JESUS?

If forgiveness is for those considered more unlikely, imagine for yourself. Just get closer to Him sincerely, regret it and ask for forgiveness.

Here’s a question for you to consider and answer: Do you think the people who crucified the Lord Jesus obtained God’s forgiveness? If any of them regretted it, do you think God has forgiven them? The Bible talks about this in chapter 2 of the Book of Acts.

It had been 50 days since the Lord Jesus’s death, and the Holy Spirit had come down on the apostles in Jerusalem and gathered a crowd around them. Peter then began to preach to the Jews who were there.

“Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, as you yourselves also know— Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death;” (Acts 2:22,23)

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” (Acts 2:36)

When those men heard that and concluded that they had killed the Son of God, can you imagine how guilty they felt?

The text says:

“Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:37,38)

See, Peter said that the men who had murdered Jesus on the cross would be forgiven and receive the Holy Spirit if they repented and were baptised in the waters for the remission of sins.

God offered the Holy Spirit to those who killed His Son. Can you understand the size of God’s mercy and forgiveness?

“Then those who gladly received his word were baptised; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them.” (Acts 2:41)

Of course, there was a chance for them. There will always be a chance as long as there is repentance, baptism in the waters, and obedience to God. Therefore, the Holy Spirit can come on anyone who chooses to do so.

So you who have been carrying considerable blame for your sins and think you have no forgiveness for yourself understand that whatever you did was not worse than what they did to Jesus. And if there was forgiveness for them, there is forgiveness for you.

So, the question is not whether God will forgive you; the question is: do you regret it?

Because if within you there is deep repentance and desire to change your life, it does not matter if you killed, stole, raped, or did atrocious things; if you repent and give your life to God, getting baptised in the waters, which means the baptism of repentance and forgiveness of sins, and go on to live a new life in obedience to His Word, you can also receive the gift of the Holy Spirit, be reconciled with God and have a new life.
