WHAT DO YOUR PRAYERS REVEAL ABOUT YOU?
Don’t you need to adjust your prayers? It may be that they are focused only on what you want and need, not on God’s will. Evaluate, therefore, when changing your prayer, the results of your life change.
If you are a person who prays and expresses some request, thoughts, or feelings to God, you can learn a lot about yourself by paying attention to what you ask.
Yes, because we do not include that or those not important to us in our prayers. Have you noticed? Therefore, you can see through your words what really matters in your life and, from there, learn more about yourself.
So, most people pray for personal requests which will benefit them. It’s worth adding something: not that God doesn’t give us the right to ask for personal things. The Bible contains examples of people who offered personal prayers in times of distress. This is allowed and even encouraged by God. This is not the problem. The problem is when our prayers only include our interests because we become more selfish.
What does God want us to be full of? The answer is in the “Lord’s Prayer”. Note that the first requests are not for those who are praying. “Our Father in Heaven.” Prayer identifies God as Father and His dwelling place. Then comes the request: “Hallowed be Your Name”. In other words, the first request comes in favour of God. Look at the tithe there. Putting God first. See that at the beginning of the “Lord’s Prayer”, we learn to seek God’s interest, His will.
God’s will is infinitely better than ours. Do you know more than God? I do not doubt that His will is better than mine. It is perfect. So, if I want to pray intelligently, I must prioritise His will in my life. “It is the Lord who is in charge. I just obey. May I learn to sanctify His Name.”
Only then comes “our daily bread”. In this model of prayer, the Lord Jesus opens a window for us to go and ask for what we need. When you pray, ask for the “daily bread”. When we ask for the “daily bread”, we focus on the present (the only time that exists) and what is necessary.
God knows how to give much more than we need. He knows how to provide “brioche bread”, “cheese” and much more. But don’t worry about that. What do you need today? God will be pleased with this.
We cannot forget to fulfil our duties towards others, too. If I don’t do for others what I want God to do for me, I will be a hypocrite.
Begin to notice what you repeatedly ask for in your prayers. People full of God pray for God’s will to be fulfilled; they pray for His Kingdom to be established in this world and for others to be as blessed as they are.
