WHEN LESS IS ALL YOU NEED
Sometimes, what we need most in our lives is less of the bad things in this world.
Sometimes, what we need to change our lives is: less things (and not more). Let me explain what I mean.
God instructed Moses, who passed on to the people, concerning the procedures in the Tabernacle. These are instructions for those who would work in the service of the House of God. And Moses had prepared the “anointing oil”.
“And you shall take the anointing oil, and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it; and you shall hallow it and all its utensils, and it shall be holy” (Exodus 40:9).
The Tabernacle was a structure, the temporary House of God in the desert, while the people were heading towards Promised Land.
Everything that was inside the Tabernacle needed to be anointed. Note that it was interesting that it was not enough to have the tent or the objects of the tent. It was necessary to take the “anointing oil”, which had been consecrated. This olive oil was used by the priests who worked in the Tabernacle. And with this olive oil, the Tabernacle and everything in it was anointed so that it would be holy (that is, “separated for God’s service”).
We understand that the “Tabernacle” these days is us. It is our body because we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit. God dwelt in that Tabernacle made of materials, but today, He wants to dwell in the “Tabernacle” that was made by Him (which is our body). So, we have to be separated for His service.
Sanctification involves separating, leaving certain things, and distancing ourselves so that we have a special value and purpose. What is holy does not mix with other things. You might have valuable utensils at home that you leave separate from the others. “I only use this on special occasions”, because of the special value that it has. That’s how God wants us to treat ourselves. He wants us to separate ourselves from the profane, from the worthless.
Nowadays, people suffer not because they lack something in their lives but because they have too many things. The problem with many couples today is that their marriage is defiled. Dirty, strange things have entered the holiness of marriage. The Bible says that the couple’s bed must be without blemish. Today, the couple’s bed is defiled because something bad was brought into their midst, such as pornography and suggestive content. The couple accepts them, but all they can bring to the relationship is the trivialisation of sex. And what begins as an idea to fantasise ends in a change of partners and betrayal.
Perhaps now you understand why your “Tabernacle” is all messed up today. It’s because you brought the profane into the sacred. When a fly lands into perfume, all the perfume has to be thrown away.
How do you change this situation? First, you must fix yourself with God, separating and giving your life to God so He may come and anoint you with the Holy Spirit. And you have to be willing to get rid of that dirt. Then, He will be able to begin this inner restoration.
Separate yourself from what defiles your integrity.
