WHEN THE MOUTH AND BODY ARE MISALIGNE

Remember that your words should reflect your actions; that is, your mouth should be in accordance with your body. This way, your life will be conducted straight and swiftly.

“So speak and so do […]” (James 2:12). One of the reasons that leads a person to fail in life is that there is no alignment between what they say and what they do. In fact, they are lying to themselves because what I believe is not what I say or think; it is what I do.

I can say what people want to hear. I can say what I gathered online, in my circle of friends or even a song. I said it because people thought it was nice. After all, I wanted to impress someone.

Therefore, I only believe in what I say and think if I follow my words and thoughts with corresponding actions. So, what I believe is not the information that comes out of my mouth but the things I do. Do you want to know someone’s faith? You have to look at what they are doing. When you see a person running in the park, sweating in a morning workout, you know that person believes in the benefit of exercise. You don’t even have to ask them; from the observation, you already know. Our actions have to be aligned with what we believe.

The problem is that we stop believing in ourselves. For example: on Saturday night, you try to wear an outfit that doesn’t fit. You know you need to lose weight. And you say: “On Monday, I’m going to let go of the bread, and I’m going to eat salad”. Then Monday comes, and you eat more than usual. What happened? Not only did you gain more weight, but you also lied to yourself. The message remains: “What I say should not be taken seriously”. Then, you enter a cycle where you say one thing but do another and prove to yourself that your word is not kept. Imagine you stop believing in yourself. You will stop believing in your professional ability, self-esteem, plans, and projects. And when you stop believing in yourself, who will believe in you? You pay a very high price for misaligning your mouth with your body.

That is why the Word of God says: “When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it; For He has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you have vowed” (Ecclesiastes 5:4).

Silence is often more valuable than words (when they are foolish). Because every time you say one thing and do another, you undermine your confidence in yourself.

Why is God, God? One of the reasons is because of what He says, He does. You can be sure that what He said, He will fulfil. You have no doubts about God’s character. We are not like Him, but we must learn this character from Him. We have to recover the image and likeness with which we were created.

What to do?

Don’t go out promising things to others and not to yourself. Before you speak, think about it. And only speak when you are determined to go into debt with your words.

Also, understand that due to the misalignment of the mouth and body, many people say they believe in God but in fact, they don’t. They like the idea of believing, but when we see their behaviours, we know they don’t. If I believe in the doctor, I obey his prescription. If I don’t believe in the doctor, I look for a second opinion and don’t obey it. It’s the same with God. So, be very careful with self-deception. Maybe you say you believe in God, but in the end, you may hear from His mouth: “I don’t know you”. Whoever believes in God, prays, lives in obedience, runs away from evil, does not live in sin, and is not a friend of the world. You have to live a life that reflects this belief. Otherwise, you will just be lying to yourself, and you will be all misaligned. You won’t sleep well; you’ll see your whole life messed up because you’ll be misaligned.

Reflect on this subject by following the entire message in the video above.
