Alone just doesn’t work!
Someone made a comment after yesterday’s post which called my attention: “I try to do what you say in the book and in the programs, but when you’re the only one fighting and the other person doesn’t lift a finger, it’s hard!”
So you just give up because it’s hard? Okay. One thing’s for sure, giving up means your guaranteed to fail. The persistent at least have a chance to win.
However, I must agree with you on one thing you said: “When you’re the only one fighting.” As long as you see yourself alone in a marital, financial, professional, or any other type of battle, truly it won’t just be difficult but impossible.
Enter God. Who only enters when you invite Him in and make Him your partner in battle. Don’t say: “This is hard because I’m all alone,” anymore. Your excluding God from the fight when you do that.
You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
Listen to what John said. According to him, the fight is not unfair on your side, but on your opponent’s side, because the one who is with you is greater. Saying this would be more accurate: “poor enemy, it’s so hard for him.”
This has to be your vision and faith.
John also says something extremely important, “Because He who is in you.”
So your question should be: “Is He in me?”
How can you be sure of this? Simply observe what Jesus said:
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. John 15:7
If you keep and do what He says, He will be with you. In practice how does this work?
Let’s imagine that you’re sick. You have a doctor. He’s ready and willing to help you. What do you have to do? Go to him, tell him your problem, let him examine you, receive his consultation, believe it and follow it at your own risk, do the treatment, and go back to the doctor regularly until you feel well again.
If you fail to complete one of the steps above, having a doctor is pointless. It’s the same thing with God.
You also have a problem and God is ready and willing to help you. You just have to go to Him, speak to Him, listen to Him when He gives you a diagnosis, receive His advice, believe in Him and follow Him at your own risk, continue doing this, and return regularly until you’re well.
Notice that it’s not automatic. “I have faith in God, so it’s going to be alright.” No. Just as you don’t say, “I have faith in the doctor, so it’s going to be alright,” and stay at home hoping that the doctor’s existence alone is going to help you. You have to go after him. That’s your fight. Instead of waging a war with your husband/wife/boss/enemy – fight your battle with God. Charge Him. Complain to Him. After all, He was the one who promised!
Don’t find yourself alone in battles anymore. Don’t confess that your problem is bigger than you. Believe that the opposite is true, and go find the strength you need in God.
If not it’s just cowardly.
